This is a working Mechanical Calculator using wooden gears. It is available fully assembled or as a kit with all of the parts pre-cut and ready to assemble yourself.

The design is based on the mechanical calculators that were used before the invention of electronic computers. The machine performs arithmetic using gears. You can add and subtract up to 4 significant figures. You can even use it to do multiplication and division. A great learning tool to demonstrate place value and the carry operation in arithmetic. It can be made in under 1 hour. Recommended ages 8 and up.
